    History
Street luge began with skateboarders racing one another downhill while sitting on their boards. It was called "buttboarding" or, sometimes, "land luge," "road luge" or simply "downhill skateboarding." The name "street luge" was apparently coined for the X Games The first formal race was staged in 1980 down Signal Hill on the Glendora Mountain Road in Southern California. There were a lot of crashes, injuring both competitors and spectators, and the California Highway Patrol gave tickets to many of the racers. Within a short time, Los Angeles and other cities passed ordinances banning skateboards from any hill with a grade steeper than 3 percent. A group of racers, led by Roger Hickey, then formed the Underground Racers Association, later the United Racers Association. The URA conducted 10 races a year for the next eight years before merging with the American Gravity Racing Organization (AGRO). URA races were often shown on local cable television and they were covered by Skateboarder magazine.

Submitted by chrismcb on Mon, 08/02/2010 - 15:22 We went down to Rome for a few days, with the main purpose of visiting Pompeii. Our train arrived about 7PM, but it was dark by the time we got a hotel, and got checked in, and had dinner. But it was a full moon, so we decided to check out some of the ruins by the light of the full moon.

Submitted by chrismcb on Mon, 07/19/2010 - 13:55 We have two or three days between races, and we generally try to go someplace cool. Someplace on the way to the next race. It splits the train trip up, and gives us some more places to see. Sometimes we plan it out, and sometimes we wing it. Today we wung it (or rather we did yesterday.) Our goal was Lake Constance, a large fresh water lake on the border between Germany and Switzerland. It is a big resort destination, and I figured it would be the perfect place to relax between Almabtrieb and Graveyard Call.

Shop Streetluge racing Streetluge is a relatively new sport, which is sort of road-going version of the traditional ice luge. Streetluges are non-motorised and rely on the good old force of gravity as a means of power. On big mountain roads streetluges can reach speeds in excess of 80 mph and since they don't have any form of suspension and are only a fraction of an inch off the ground they provide the rider with a tremendous sensation of speed. We at DoctorDanger like streetluging a lot, but before you venture into this sport we would like to stress that its a very dangerous sport and we've made almost as many trips to the hospitals as we have race meetings.

    Street Luge
Street luge is a form of recreation as well as an extremely popular adventure sport in which the participants roll down the sloping roads of the mountains riding a street luge board . Mainly the street luge races use the paved roads for the downhill street luge rides at a speed of more than 70 miles per hour. These boards are usually made of the combination of a number of materials like aluminum, carbon fibre, steel and wood. However, with no strict rule binding the shape of the board, they can be of varied designs and patterns. Though the boards are expected to have both the front and the rear padding, yet the use of the mechanical brakes in the street luge boards are prohibited. The racers are always advised to protect themselves with a helmet having chin strap and face shield . The use of goggles to protect the eyes is also common. Two to six racers can compete at a time in the races held along courses whose lengths range from 0.5 to 3 miles. The sport of Street luge originated in Southern California when the skateboarders , while rolling downhill, found that lying down on their skateboards facilitated their movement. This was known as classic style or butt boarding. The first professional competition of Street luge dates back to 1975 when the U.S. Skateboard Association hosted the race at
