    Maranui Surf Life Saving Club
Maranui Surf Life Saving Club is situated on Wellington's south coast beach of Lyall Bay.
Established in 1911, the building itself is listed on the Historic Buildings Trust. It was recently gutted by a fire in August 2009 and is currently undergoing a restoration.
The Surf Club continues to patrol the beach at Oriental Parade and is still running its very successful Nippers (Junior Surf) programme as well as training new lifeguards and competing at National level in a variety of Surf Sports.
Maranui is also home to the popular Maranui Cafe which will re-open it's doors in June 2010. Maranui Cafe rises from the ashes Written by admin Monday, 31 May 2010 17:48 By TOM HUNT - The Dominion Post - 31/05/2010
Ten months to the day since Maranui Cafe was gutted by fire, it's set to open again.
The Lyall Bay cafe re-opens to the public tomorrow after having a trial run for invited guests yesterday.
Largely rebuilt to its pre-fire state, the cafe has had a few improvements, such as sound baffling and a rejigged
kitchen. It now seats about 100 people.
