ABOUT TCHOUKBALL UK
Saturday, 01 May 2010 20:56 Tchoukball UK was founded on the 13th January 2002, and as a member of tchoukball's global governing body, the International Tchoukball Federation (FITB), we enjoy a privileged and highly respected position. Tchoukball players from Britain have been participating in international tournaments for a number of years. The highlight so far was Tchoukball UK organising the 2002 World Tournament, the largest international competition in the history of Tchoukball. Tchoukball UK has formed international squads of both men and women, and they attend regular coaching sessions preparing for coming international competitions. The relatively new ladies section is showing great promise and is growing in strength. The development of the under 16 group is another stride forward that augurs well for the future of the game. A major aspect of Tchoukball UK's work is, and will remain, with schools where in the junior and middle age range the game is steadily becoming an accepted part of the curriculum. This appears to coincide with the professions move away from practice of aggressive type games, to skill orientation. Tchoukball is compatible with the demands of Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 and is an excellent alternative to traditional sports for encouraging team play and sportsmanship.

This is the year 2009 at a glance as concerns the development and promotion of tchoukball in Kenya.
MILESTONES
Having demonstrated our ability to promote tchoukball at a great rate, we are certain of an exponential growth of tchoukball in Kenya, especially as we gear up for the first ever African Continental Tchoukball Tournament in Accra 2010. Having also demonstrated our ability to locally produce tchoukball frames and assemble the equipment to perfection, we are certain of great development speed of tchoukball in Kenya. We are sure of one thing, there is an enormous interest and demand of tchoukball in Kenya and we must do all that is possible to meet those demands. We promise to deliver greater things in the coming 2010.

Jamhuri Day Tchoukball Match!
The Jamhuri Day Tchoukball Match
On 12th of December 2009, Kenya celebrated a very important day in its history. Jamhuri Day is a very important day in Kenyan history as it reminds the nation of its foundation and declaration to be a republic. For that matter the day is a national holiday celebrated annually in all parts of the country, the climax of which happens at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
This year the celebrations at Nyayo stadium was quite unique due to the fact that it also marks the first time ever tchoukball was played at such a forum in Kenya. After the entertainment and the vital speeches of the Prime Minister and the President, Kenya Tchoukball Federation was given a chance to showcase the new game of tchoukball and have the first ever Jamhuri Day Tchoukball Match. The match was played at the Handball Court of Nyayo National Stadium and it attracted a wide audience of curious onlookers as well as handball fanatics and tchoukball fans in Kenya.

Tchoukball
Tchoukball (pronounced "Chuke-ball") is a relatively new sport being invented by the Swiss biologist Dr. Hermann Brandt in the late 60's and introduced to the public in 1970. The rules of tchoukball are easy to learn and the game is a fun fast way to keep fit and enjoy being in a team. The aim of this website is to introduce new players to this ever expanding sport and to help them learn the basic rules and tactics. The following is a brief summary of the game which is given in more detail if you follow the links at the top. - Tchoukball is played with two 'rebound frames'. These framesmeasure 90 centimetres square and are situated at both ends of the court.
- A line runs 3 metres from the centre of the bottom of the frame around in a semi-circle. This area is called the 'D' or 'forbidden zone'.
- The court size varies greatly depending on the ages of the players; a full size international standard court is 40m by 20m in size.
- Unlike most other team games you can score at both ends.
- There are 12 players in each team, including 3 subs.

  • The game matches two teams divided by a median line of 9 players. One rebound frame is placed on each end of the field/gym .In front of each frame is a semi-circle 10 feet radius, which defines the forbidden zone.
  • THe ball meets the standards of a handball game.It must NEVER touch the ground.During any phase of the game, the ball remains in the hands of one team; interception is forbidden in order to prevent aggression and violent contact. Control of the ball is handed to the other team after every shoot at the frame or after every fault.
  • In order to score a point for the team ,a player must bounce the ball off the frame so no defending player can catch it beore it hits the field of play
  • The team that has just given up apoint restarts the pay.A maximum of three passes is allowed to put one player in afavorable position to shoot.
