From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search The Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act establishes a United States Olympic Committee and provides for national governing bodies for each Olympic sport . The Act provides important legal protection for individual athletes. Prior to the adoption of the Act in 1978, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) represented the United States on international competition matters and regulated amateur sports generally. The AAU had adopted arbitrary rules which prohibited women from participating in running events and banned any runner who had raced in the same event as a runner with a shoe-company sponsorship. Congress adopted the Act in response to criticisms of the AAU, effectively removing that organization from any governance role. The AAU now continues as a voluntary organization largely promoting youth sports; while it still has a major role in promoting track, it is now best known for sponsoring youth basketball competitions. The Act charters the US Olympic Committee, which in turn can charter a

I don't consider myself a sports shooter (besides I can't afford the expensive bodies and the huge and fast Canon monster lens), but I enjoy the challenge, anticipation and patience sport shooting brings.

Welcome to the MASC!
The MASC was created in 1987 by the Minnesota State Legislature to promote the economic and social benefits of sports. Since then, the MASC has made enormous strides in accomplishing its goals. Since the inception of the MASC in 1987, Minnesota has become a role model state for its proactive methods of creating benefits from amateur sports. The MASC has been at the forefront of this effort. The MASC has become best known for two things:
  • Creating amateur sports events which attract out-of-state attendance, generating economic impact for the state. Fostering public/private and state/local partnerships. Many MASC programs have utilized this model, including facility construction and the Mighty Ducks and Mighty Kids grant programs.

The NCAS Endowment Fund was established within the Triangle Community Foundation in February 1988 with a contribution from North Carolina Amateur Sports (NCAS), host of the US Olympic Festival-'87. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the Festival were given to the United States Olympic Committee to advance the Olympic movement in the United States. The North Carolina Amateur Sports Board of Directors voted to placed the remaining profits in a permanent endowment that would promote amateur athletics in North Carolina. To date, more than $500,000 has been distributed to individuals and organizations in North Carolina. The deadline to submit 2010 grant applications is July 22. EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS Bojangles, Duke Energy and North Carolina Amateur Sports have partnered together in 2010 to provide educational scholarships to Powerade State Games participants. Each year more than $20,000 is distributed in educational scholarships to Powerade State Games participants. This year Duke Energy has partnered with the Powerade State Games to provide additional scholarships to Powerade State Games participants that reside in the Duke Energy service area.

To promote and coordinate amateur athletic activity in the Unites States, to recognize certain rights for United States amateur athletes, to provide for the resolution of disputes involving national governing bodies, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That this Act may be cited as the "Amateur Sports Act of 1978".
OLYMPIC COMMITTEE REORGANIZATION
Section 1. (a) the Act entitled "An Act to incorporate the United States Olympic Association", approved September 21, 1959 (36 U.S.C. 371 et seq.), hereinafter in this Act referred to as " the Act", is amended in the first section.
(1) by striking out "That the following persons, to wit:" and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
TITLE I - CORPORATION
"Sec. 101. The following persons, to wit:"; (2) in the first sentence by striking out "corporation" before the period and inserting in lieu thereof "Corporation"; and (3) by amending the last sentence thereof to read as follows:
"The Corporation shall maintain its principal officer and national headquarters in such place in the United States as is determined by the Corporation, and may hold its annual and special meetings in such places as the Corporation shall determine".
