There are also many different models that have been created as of late that change the face of P.E. One example of this is the Health Club Model. Teaching with this model is very different from the "Organized Recess" of 20 or 30 years ago. Spun off the boom in the health club industry, a P.E. class provides many of the same "classes" that are found at a health club. Monday a student could be doing kickboxing, the next day is yoga, Wednesday the student is doing aerobics. This type of program provides a great variety of activity for students, a lot a high intensity exercise, and helps introduce these activities for use later in life. The Sports Education model is another example of a new model were the class is run like a sports league, with students taking the role of coaches, scorers, referees, and reporters as well as players. Using this model, students practice management skills, mathematics skills, and writing skill all while learning sports skills and being active.

2. Physical Education
Physical Education plays a critical role in educating the whole student. Like other academic courses of study, physical education is based upon rigorous national standards that

Student, Family, and School Support Divisions Divisions Instruction Physical Education National Standards for Physical Education The Maryland Physical Education Content Standards were designed to be consistent with the NASPE National Standards for Physical Education. The Maryland Physical Education Content Standards expand upon the NASPE standards and require students to use these skills and knowledge in active, in-depth learning experiences that focus on problem solving, decision making, and investigating authentic movement problems. Because of this, the Maryland Physical Education Content Standards look different from the NASPE standards, but they include the basic knowledge and skills advocated by both National and Maryland state experts. The National Standards for Physical Education include: Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

It also can refer to any intramural or extracurricular sport or physical activity students take part of through their school system. It should be noted that unlike other curricula, a majority of the course work is participated in, rather than "studied." The purpose of physical education involves more than training the body, or physical fitness, but is based on the understanding that fitness and physical training helps the mind . For young children play has been recognized as a valuable, even essential, component of learning. While some cultures included training in some type of physical activity, such as hunting, dance, martial arts, and so forth, since early times, others, particularly those emphasizing literacy, excluded physical training as part of their education for young people. Today physical education is accepted as a necessary aspect of education, although the competitive aspects and inclusion of grading is controversial.

Physical education in the Junior School meets the physical needs of the child and the need for movement experiences, challenges and play. It develops a desire for daily physical activity and encourages constructive use of free time and participation in physical activities in adult life. To fulfill these goals, physical education is built on the principles of variety and diversity, not of specialization. It provides a wide variety of movement activities appropriate to the level of development of the child. The Junior A to Junior Four Physical Education curriculum is focused on skill development and overall fitness for each grade level. Skills such as ball handling, manipulation of equipment, locomotive movement and spatial awareness are developed in an enjoyable and supportive atmosphere. The fitness component of the curriculum includes the development of speed, endurance, flexibility, agility and strength. Physical Education teachers' planning includes age-appropriate content and teaching strategies. Throughout the program, activities are chosen with regard to the diverse learning needs of Junior School students. There is a progression of skills throughout the curriculum, thus allowing students to practice and refine at each grade level. Also important are the social skills that allow students to perform in a cooperative and appropriate manner when involved in group or individual activities.

A Healthy Beginning: The original SPARK Physical Education (PE) study was supported by the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. A team of internationally known researchers and educators were funded to create, implement, and evaluate new and innovative approaches to physical education content and instruction, then test them in “real world” settings. SPARK PE was designed to be more inclusive, active, and fun than traditional PE classes, and SPARK was proven to work with both physical education specialists and classroom teachers. Today, after lessons learned from more than 20 years of ongoing research and field testing nationwide, SPARK PE is one of the best physical education programs in the world – a true solution to our growing problem of overweight and obese children. SPARK's Positive Effects: Tested and Proven Today, over 45 publications have documented the positive effects of SPARK PE such as:

Expert-Novice Differences in Memory for Physics Pictures
Previous research has demonstrated that physics experts categorize physics problems by the principles used to solve them; whereas, many physics novices tend to categorize physics problems by surface-feature similarity. This current study sought to find differences between physics experts and novices on a memory test of physics pictures. We designed pairs of physics pictures which were simple line drawings that depicted some physical situation (examples shown in the figure). For a given pair, the second picture was altered from the original in one of two ways: changes that did not alter the physics depicted, or changes that made a meaningful change to the physics depicted. Subjects were shown one picture from each pair during a study portion, and then later, were shown either the same picture or its slightly changed pair.

Health and fitness have become a major focus nowadays with the increasing number of obesity cases and other health problems. Those trained in the field of health sciences will definitely be in greater demand. And those who are interested in this area of study will find that there are many physical education degree courses that they can undertake to prepare them to meet this demand. These courses are available for them on campus or online.
A physical education degree helps educators to be prepared to teach and coach in areas which include general exercises, recreation, games, sports, fitness, nutrition and hygiene. An undergraduate degree is required for teaching and coaching children from level K to Grade 12. To teach at college level, the educator must have a graduate degree. Other than training in fun activities, students pursuing a physical education degree are also taught academic subjects like kinesiology, morphology and physiology.
There are many physical education programs a person can pursue which are available on campus or online. Online physical education degree program is the preferred program for most working educators who don`t want to go on extended leave so as to pursue a degree in physical education. An advantage of an online program is that it reduces the time to commute and totally eliminates the problem of acquiring residency while on campus. In an online program, students are able to learn both the theory of health sciences as well as keep up to date with studies in this area.
