nanotechnology
Nanotechnology, or, as it is sometimes called, molecular manufacturing , is a branch of engineering that deals with the design and manufacture of extremely small electronic circuits and mechanical devices built at the molecular level of matter. The Institute of Nanotechnology in the U.K. expresses it as "science and technology where dimensions and tolerances in the range of 0.1 nanometer (nm) to 100 nm play a critical role." Nanotechnology is often discussed together with micro-electromechanical systems ( MEMS ), a subject that usually includes nanotechnology but may also include technologies higher than the molecular level. There is a limit to the number of components that can be fabricated onto a semiconductor wafer or "chip.". Traditionally, circuits have been etched onto chips by removing material in small regions. However, it is also possible in theory to build chips up, one atom at a time, to obtain devices much smaller than those that can be manufactured by etching. With this approach, there would be no superfluous atoms; every particle would have a purpose. Electrical conductors, called

A nanometer is one-billionth (1/1,000,000,000) of a meter or about the diameter of ten hydrogen atoms placed side by side. By comparison, the diameter of a human hair is about 100,000 nanometers. Nanotechnology is about building things atom by atom, constructing things with the utmost accuracy to achieve unprecedented capabilities. "The impact of Nanotechnology on health, wealth, and lives of people will be at least the equivalent of the combined influences of microelectronics, medical imaging, computer-aided engineering and man-made polymers developed in this century."

Federal grant of $0.25 Million granted to Arizona State University for nanotechnology research
October 31st, 2010 Arizona State University (ASU) has recently got a two tear federal award for $248,000 for studying the risks and benefits of nanotechnology. Gary Marchant, Doug Sylvester and Ken Abott, Professors at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU and Elizabeth Corley of school of Public affairs have got award for two year for nanotech research from Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI). The present grant is in continuation of the earlier grant of 2007, which was received by Abbott, Sylvester and Marchant for developing model for the international regulation in nanotechnology. Although at present there are more than thousands of nanoproducts available in the market, however the industry as a whole is unregulated and to have a control on the products, there health, safety and environmental issues need to be studies. Nanotechnology is a vast market and daily new products are launched in the market and keeping these into minds, the environmental and health concerns are genuine. Many times there are misconception also as it was reported that a household sealants caused breathing problem and on study it was found that it contains no nanoparticle.

    Definition of Nanotechnology:
Nanotechnology is the understanding and control of matter at the realm of 1 to 100 nanometers. (For reference, a piece of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick.) At the nanoscale, matter functions differently from both the individual atomic and macroscopic scales, so some unique properties are available for use in the field.
    Development of Nanotechnology:
Nanotechnology is a natural end-result of scientific development and our ability to understand and manipulate matter at smaller and smaller levels. Just as computers have gone from bulky, room-filling monstrosities to handheld computers, such reductions in size will continue until we reach fundamental physical limits.
On December 29, 1959, the influential American physicist
