Extractions: Dishwashers can be thirsty items. Even a dishwasher with a low water use rating can use the equivalent of two sinks of water per wash. Older models can use more - up to 40 litres. The way to save water is to operate your dishwasher only when it is full. This way you will also save on your power bills. - Water Corporation Today: Sunday, 31 October 2010 1. Use accredited green power: one of the best ways to reduce your carbon emissions is to sign up to electricity from renewable energy sources. 2. Insulate your home: it can save you hundreds of dollars each year on your energy bills and reduce your carbon emissions. 3. Use less hot water: water heating uses about a third of all the energy in the home. 4. Try driving less: you save 1.5kg of carbon dioxide for every 5km you don't drive. 5. Keep your car running well: make sure you keep your car in good working order. When buying a new car try to make your choice based on fuel consumption as much as style or brand. 6. Don't rely on standby: standby power from appliances averages 92 Watts per household or 800kWh per year. This can cost you around $105 annually.

Extractions: other books Home Post Carbon Institute promotes the strategy of relocalization - building strong local communities to increase resilience. Looking for information on how to join or set up a group? Click here Relocalization is a strategy to build societies based on the local production of food, energy and goods, and the local development of currency, governance and culture. The main goals of relocalization are to increase community energy security, to strengthen local economies, and to improve environmental conditions and social equity. The relocalization strategy developed in response to the environmental, social, political and economic impacts of global over-reliance on cheap energy. In 2009 Post Carbon Institute partnered with the international Transition movement to support and inspire community led responses around the relocalization strategy. The aims and work of Relocalization Network, a Post Carbon program from 2003-2009 with a network of 200 local groups, were at this stage integrated into Transition.

Extractions: By Cheryl Janis on October 1st, 2009 As 2009 makes its way into Fall, many of us are in squirrel mode; gathering our resources for winter so that we may relax into the season.  Autumn is often associated with a sense of richness, wisdom and freedom.  Is it also seen as a time to begin to cultivate our inner space, incubating with new ideas to birth next Spring. What is Feng Shui? Feng Shui (translated from the Chinese to wind/water) is the ancient Asian art of space planning to profoundly improve quality of life.  It can be a powerful tool in aligning us with our life’s purpose. As a Feng Shui Consultant, this time of year is filled with assisting clients to create nurturing environments and sacred space, aligning goals and intentions with personal surroundings. As the popularity of Feng Shui in the West continues to grow, so has confusion around the subject. Many of us interested in learning more about the practice can be overwhelmed by the abundance of information on the subject in the ever growing section on “Feng Shui†a the local bookstore. Many approaches offer varying cures to Feng Shui challenges, from simple practical remedies, to those that encompass complex astrological charts. I often hear questions like, “Where is my wealth corner?†and “Do I need to place an ancient Chinese symbol there to activate my prosperity?†The answers vary on different schools of thought. And although the practices take on many different forms, the goal is the same: to promote balance and harmony within our physical, emotional and spiritual bodies.

Extractions: Our civilisation improves a little bit everyday. Because we are curious, we come up with questions, and think about how to answer the questions. Sometimes we come up with some solutions and become satisfied. But these solutions may not be the best solutions. So we start thinking again and come up with better solutions, and eventually, great solutions. The chain coffee shops came up with the disposable coffee carrier, which solve the problem of the poor assistant who is asked by mutliple executive to buy coffees for them. But there are still problems with the old school carrier - it is not that easy to carry. So someone change it a bit and put a handle on it, and now it works much better.
