High Molecular Weight Polyaniline Films MacDiarmid, Alan G.; Scherr, Elliot; Tang, Xun; Substantially amorphous, high molecular weight polyaniline which is processable http://www.devileye.net/catalog/stabilized_polyolefin_compositions/high_molecula
Extractions: MacDiarmid, Alan G.; Scherr, Elliot; Tang, Xun; Substantially amorphous, high molecular weight polyaniline which is processable into shaped articles such as fibers is disclosed. Polyaniline base made by standard procedures is subjected to extraction to remove impurities and lower molecular weight fractions. The resulting high molecular weight base, which is partially crystalline and insoluble in NMP and concentrated H.sub.2 SO.sub.4, is converted to an amorphous material soluble in NMP and concentrated H.sub.2 SO.sub.4, by a two step process involving conversion to a salt, and reconversion to a base. Fibers prepared from the high molecular weight material exhibit conductivities in the range of about 50 to 100 S/cm. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION For many useful applications of the conducting polyaniline polymers, it is necessary that they in some way be processable, i.e., capable of being converted into shaped articles such as fibers, films and fiber composites. It has been disclosed that free-standing films of emeraldine acetate (conductivity of about 0.5-2 S/cm) can be cast from solutions of emeraldine base in 80% aqueous acetic acid. M. Angelopoulos, A. Ray, A. G. MacDiarmid and A. J. Epstein, Synth. Met., 21, 21-30 (1987). M. Angelopoulos, G. E. Asturias, S. P. Ermer, A. Ray, E. M. Scherr, A. G. MacDiarmid, M. Akhtar, Z. Kiss and A. J. Epstein, Mol. Cryst. Liq. Cryst., 1988, vol. 160, pp. 151-163, disclose that the best solvent for producing high quality free-standing films of emeraldine base is 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), and that the mechanical properties of films cast from NMP are greatly superior to those of films cast from 80% acetic acid as previously described.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) - Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia Poly(3,4ethylenedioxythiophene) or PEDOT (or sometimes PEDT) is a conducting polymer based on 3,4-ethylenedioxylthiophene or EDOT monomer. Advantages of this polymer are optical http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEDOT

For the CMX album, see Pedot PEDOT Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) or PEDOT (or sometimes PEDT ) is a conducting polymer based on 3,4-ethylenedioxylthiophene or EDOT monomer . Advantages of this polymer are optical transparency in its conducting state, high stability and moderate band gap and low redox potential . A large disadvantage is poor solubility which is partly circumvented in the PEDOT:PSS composite , and the PEDOT-TMA material. (Note: Pedot is a transparent conductor . These conductors are used for LCDs and solar cells , among others.) In the field of electroanalysis, conductive polymers are widely employed as coatings conferring the electrode systems antifouling properties and possibly activating electrocatalytic redox processes. Among different conducting polymers, PEDOT has emerged in recent years, thanks to characteristics previously reported. In addition, PEDOT coatings possess high stability over different charge and discharge cycles and can be electrogenerated directly on a conductive support (Pt, Au, glassy carbon, indium tin oxide ,…) in organic solvents or in aqueous solution. The enhancement of the electrochemical signals relative to the oxidation of different analytes, when using PEDOT modiï¬ed electrodes with respect to bare support has been reported in recent publications.

Organic Semiconductor - Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia An organic semiconductor is an organic material with semiconductor properties. Semiconductivity may be exhibited by single molecules, short chain and organic polymers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_semiconductor

Semiconductivity may be exhibited by single molecules , short chain ( oligomers ) and organic polymers . Semiconducting small molecules ( aromatic hydrocarbons ) include the polycyclic aromatic compounds pentacene anthracene , and rubrene . Polymeric organic semiconductors include poly(3-hexylthiophene) poly(p-phenylene vinylene) , as well as polyacetylene and its derivatives. There are two major overlapping classes of organic semiconductors. These are organic charge-transfer complexes and various linear-backbone conductive polymers derived from polyacetylene . Linear backbone organic semiconductors include polyacetylene itself and its derivatives polypyrrole , and polyaniline . Charge-transfer complexes often exhibit similar conduction mechanisms to inorganic semiconductors , at least locally. Such mechanisms arise from the presence of hole and electron conduction layers separated by a band gap . As with inorganic amorphous semiconductors , tunneling, localized states, mobility gaps , and phonon -assisted hopping also contribute to conduction, particularly in polyacetylenes. Like inorganic semiconductors, organic semiconductors can be
