The forfeit was the Player's place at the table; and the Game had no recess. It was the most dangerous of all sports and the most fascinating. It got in the blood like wine. It aged men 40 years in 40 days; it ruined nervous systems in an hour. It was a fast game the average life-span of a pilot at the Front was 48 hours. And, to many, it seemed an Age...." Extractions: The creation of model railways has been a major hobby of mine for many, many years and is still as fulfilling today as it was when I first started. I don't use the word 'creation' lightly, as that is exactly what this hobby is about, creating something that is uniquely yours. A moving, living picture, composed of many different materials, requiring skills that you probably thought you didn't have but which you will learn as you progress. A very important consideration in today's financial climate is that success in this hobby isn't directly related to how much you spend. When I say success I mean the satisfaction and pleasure that is going to be yours if you choose to follow the hobby and that success has nothing at all to do with how much you can afford. In fact, less can be much, much more. That is not to say that model railroading is a freebie, of course it isn't, but I am being completely truthful when I say that a little can go a very long way. If you have never tried Card modeling and you like to work with your hands you will really enjoy this hobby. Once you have tried this you will be amazed at the quality of the models, they are just as good if not better than most of the plastic or wood models on the market today. All you need to build models is a good pair of scissors, poster paper for backing and some white glue such as Elmers. I build ships and aircraft but the range of models available is amazing. Castles, trains, birds, automobiles, balloons and much more. Below I have listed links to sites that will provide information for you and some places to buy the models if you are interested.
