Directions The Center for Applied Aquatic Ecology The Center for Applied Aquatic Ecology's broad research directive is to assess and find practical solutions to water quality problems in North Carolina and the nation. The Center's research projects span from freshwaters to estuaries and marine waters. Current research includes cyanobacteria and their toxins in major drinking water supply reservoirs in North Carolina; long-term trends in nutrient loading to the Neuse River and Estuary and ecosystem response, related to changing land use patterns in the watershed; and the biology of harmful algae and their impacts on finfish and shellfish health.
Spawning Is Imminent A blog about fisheries news and topics and the experiences of a young fish biologist. http://www.spawningisimminent.blogspot.com/
Extractions: skip to main skip to sidebar Easy! I'm just moving websites. I made some friends over at Southern Fried Science , and they've recently created a network (called the Gam ) made up of ocean bloggers from all over. Its like a Carnival of the Blue, except its everyday....instead of once a month. They decided that Spawning is Imminent is worthy and they'd like us to join (haha, I have them fooled). My new website will be http://www.spawningisimminent.southernfriedscience.com/ . It hasn't officially launched yet, but I'm launching it to you guys. I know, I know, you have to change the website in your favorites tab. Take your finger out of your nose and do it. Right now. I'll wait. Here's some music to listen to while you do your business. "I'll wait" by Van Halen The reason for the switch is that this will expose my blog to a much larger audience. Don't call me a sell out! I'm that hip indie band that you got used to seeing at your favorite bar. And I just got signed onto a new label. But it's the same music. You guys are my people! My homies. You'll always be my favorites. The site will generally have the same look and feel, but it will be a wordpress blog instead of blogger. I've had to learn a new blogging platform, so it may take me a while to get the hang of it. I'll send a last last post, when it officially launches. Because of importing issues, I'll keep this site up. But nothing new will be posted here.

Home - CoralWatch A methodology used to assess the extent of bleaching on a coral reef. Website provides information and materials on how to conduct this protocol. http://www.coralwatch.org/
Extractions: Order Coral Finder . Easy to use practical underwater book to identify corals. Website latest update: 19/10/2010 CoralWatch is a non-profit organisation built on a research project at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. We have developed an inexpensive, simple, non-invasive method for the monitoring of coral bleaching, and assessment of coral health. Our Coral Health Chart is basically a series of sample colours, with variation in brightness representing different stages of bleaching/recovery, based on controlled experiments. It is our aim to both provide a scientific tool and increase awareness about global warming by demonstrating one of its devastating effects. We ask you to please help by using our kit to monitor your local reefs, or any that you visit. In the News ...

Our mission is to collaborate with conservation and academic NGOs in scientific research projects based in developing countries, especially projects on the ecology and conservation of coral reefs. Among other efforts, OSF is developing a 53-foot catamaran as a research platform for projects in the field. Activities OSF has acquired and is refitting the vessel RV Darwin in Long Beach, California. We plan to sail it south to Baja California sometime in 2008 and base it in the city of La Paz BCS.
