Phil's French Guiana Page Operation Canope in tropical rain forest canopy of Paracou, French Guiana in November 1996. Photographs of the blimp and inflatable canopy raft. http://www.canopyquest.com/Field/PKWFGuiana.html
Extractions: Insect collecting from the canopy raft in French Guiana. In addition to collecting during the day, Phil spent two nights in the canopy on the raft and endured a pouring rain one of the nights. The spectacular sun rises from the top of the trees made it all worth it; especially seeing the hot air blimp carrying the research sled beneath it and skimming the treetops! When the wind would kick up a few hours later (with the heat of the sun), the blimp would return and be put away to avoid being blown around on the launch pad. Birding From Peru's Canopy Walkway Birding ecotour to Peru s Amazon region, based around a canopy walkway. Photographs, species list, and maps. http://www.earthfoot.org/places/pe001.htm
Extractions: It's a detailed story, so here goes: The Explorama company which employs Luico also owns exclusive touristic rights to the Canopy Walkway, part of which is shown at the right. Therefore, users of the remotely located Canopy Walkway are obliged to stay in one of the on-site Explorama lodges or camps, and to sign up for a kind of "package." Moreover, especially because of insurance matters, visitors cannot simply climb onto the Canopy Walkway and spend the day with their own binoculars and bird-fieldguides identifying birds on their own, without being accompanied by one of the Explorama guides, of which Lucio is one. EarthFoot generally does not promote such packages, but in this case the experience offered is so exceptional, the organization has such a fine record of environmental and social responsibility, and Lucio is such a fine host, that we are making an exception. Explorama offers a variety of packages involving different mixes of lodges and camps (from very fancy to elemental), and different lengths of visit. If the package quoted here does not feel comfortable to you, you can ask about other options when you e-mail Lucio through his Host Helper Peter Jenson.

Zip Line Trolley - Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia A zipline trolley is a metal device that connects a person or a load to a cable and allows them to move along the cable either under their own power or by using gravity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_Line_Trolley
Extractions: Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources . Unsourced material may be challenged and removed (September 2007) A zip-line trolley is a metal device that connects a person or a load to a cable and allows them to move along the cable either under their own power or by using gravity . A trolley usually consists of a metal frame with one or more shivs ( wheels ) that the trolley runs on. The load or user is connected to the trolley via a carabiner or another form of engineered link and a harness . Occasionally trolleys have a handhold or handlebar although this system does not provide any fall protection and should only be used on zip lines that are low to the ground and over water. Some zip lines are used for true transportation value while others are purely for recreation and amusement Retrieved from " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_line_trolley Categories Tools Hidden categories: Articles lacking sources from September 2007 All articles lacking sources Personal tools Namespaces Variants Views Actions Search Navigation Interaction Toolbox Print/export Create a book Download as PDF Printable version This page was last modified on 15 April 2010 at 06:45.

Extractions: By Haven Miller LEXINGTON (July 21, 2000) - Measuring the amount of light that penetrates through the leafy canopy of a dense forest is tricky business. That's because outdoor conditions such as wind and clouds can't be controlled. But scientists at the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture believe they have discovered a way to make forest light measurements more accurate. The scientists have constructed an artificial forest canopy. To picture it in your mind, imagine a large, black paper umbrella with hundreds of holes punched in it. Because the size and number of holes is predetermined, the light that passes through them can be precisely measured. "In the forest we have less control of the environment and therefore subsequently the measurement," said Calvin Liu, researcher in UK's department of forestry. "That is the reason we wanted to build a model to do the research – it gives us more control."
