This year’s format will be circuit racing on Saturday and the Ohope Beach Challenge on Sunday; a one hour long coarse race on with all the fleet sailing together (wind and safety permitting). You will surely need a yacht, if you have never sailed before a Manta Twin will be the best for you, they are relatively inexpensive, are easy to manage and there is an excellent one design racing fleet. They are not the highest performance yacht around but they are the most popular. If you are intent on building a yacht, it is relatively easy to make a boat that will sail, it takes most people three tries to make on that works well and it takes many years to build a yacht that consistently wins races. On the other hand if you wish to buy the yacht, you can contact one of those suppliers. Scott Dyer Winpower Sports 3111 S. A great sport! 2) To act as a central point for the owners of Sirocco and Sprint land sailers to gather, exchange information and ideas. These pages are designed to introduce you to the world of Land Sailing. Land sailing is one of the fastest growing sports. It is most easily thought of as wind powered go-karting, combining the speed of racing carts with the zen like feel of sailing. New designs have allowed it to migrate from it's traditional home in the desert and move into more urban areas. The new generation of land sailers is less expensive, easier to transport and are small and flexible enough to run in smaller areas and a variety of surfaces.

Or alternatively just form a social interest group. We are located in Macclesfield Sth Australia, but have venues in several places close to the City Model land-yacht frames can be built from either aluminium , wood , moulded fibreglass or carbon fibre. The sails may be from lightweight sailcloth or mylar. A simple 2 channel radio , 2 servos; usually included with the radio are the main part of any outlay. They are great fun to build and experiment with. There are a few commercial builders that offer kits that are easy to assemble and conform to ORCLY ( Oceania Remote Control Land Yachts, National body for Aust and NZ) standards. The yachts pictured above were moulded in Fibreglass. But could also be built from plywood by someone with average model building ability. We are currently using Pink Lake at Meningie S.A., and a few other venues in Adelaide However these do not have to be the only place to launch a land-yacht. These vehicles can be used in car parks, hard tennis/basketball courts or even on back roads. I am currently seeking out other places that are less reliant on the tide table and perhaps able to be offset to the full size land-yacht meets, so that I can spend as much time doing the real thing as playing with the remote control. Model land-yachts are an ideal way of learning how to utilise wind power to your best advantage prior to investing in the true sport.

Extractions: Land Sailing, the fastest growing sport in the world. S.A.I.L.S is a group of enthusiastic land-yacht sailors that has relinquished any affiliation with other like clubs that are steeped in red-tape, in-faction fighting and have lost sight of the enjoyment and social factors that this sport provides. Throughout the world there are hundreds of people sailing land-yachts on dry lakes, beaches and across deserts. In fact, just about anywhere the wind is blowing and the ground is firm enough to sail on. The sport is non-sexist and can be enjoyed by all age groups. South Australia offers some ideal places to launch your yacht and enjoy the thrill of this sport. So if you like to travel and enjoy the thrill of speed or even the sometimes slow leisurely pace in light wind sailing this is the sport for you. Like every other sporting interest there is always an outlay to get started. The current costs of a new land-yacht is about $AUD 000. From time to time second- hand ones may become available and can be purchased for around just over half the cost of a new yacht. But don't hold your breath! Once started, people don't easily give up this sport. Whilst the " Magic" is the standard yacht used by many, there are variances to the class you can have built or acquire. There are even 2 seated models, that provide great fun for taking friends out for a spin or using solo. Whether foot or hand steered models they are great fun to sail, without the normal risks that abound in the ocean
