This knowledge may have come from school, on the job, or through independent reading, observation, or study. Anyone who wishes to take a CLEP test is welcome to register to take test(s) at our Computer Based Testing Center and have their test scores reported to the institution of their choice. Upcoming Changes: Starting July 1, 2010, the English Composition with Essay CLEP test will be discontinued and replaced with the College Composition CLEP test. This test will require two essays rather than one and will take 120 minutes to complete instead of 90. A score of 50 or above will give students six credits for the courses Comp 125 and Comp 126. Starting July 1, 2010, Fort Lewis College will offer credit for the Natural Sciences CLEP exam. A score of 50 or above will give students four credits for the course Bio 112. Additionally, the price for all CLEP exams will change from $97 ($25 to FLC and $72 to CLEP) to $102 ($25 to FLC and $77 to CLEP). What are CLEP exams? This program allows students who already know material covered by a certain course to gain college credit by taking a test instead of the actual class. This " testing-out " of classes can often save students both a lot of time and money. Most colleges and universities accept at least some of CLEP's thirty-four different tests. As a result, the acronym has become so well known it is common to hear it used as a verb. Instead of saying "I want to test-out of a class," people will often say "I want to clep out of a class." This usage, however, can create some confusion, because CLEP is actually only one brand of test used for the purpose of " testing-out " of classes.
