As a boy, Hubermann played the Brahms Violin Concerto in front of the composer, who is said to have been greatly moved by the performance. He played regularly in Vienna, and between 1934 and 1936 taught in the violin master school at the Vienna Conservatory. He later helped Jewish musicians to get to Palestine, and organized the Palestine Symphony Orchestra. Hubermann and Schenker Huberman was greatly admired by, among others, Furtwängler. Schenker evidently thought well of his playing and musicianship, while harboring some reservations, as in this diary comment: "Hubermann has visibly grown, has at his command all the possibilities of tone connection and gradations of light and shade, all arts of bowing, but at the same time yields to the commonest of desires, which he allows to deteriorate even into tastelessness." The extreme characterisation of his interpretations brought him great fame particularly in Central Europe, but also the label of maverick. The previously unpublished Adagio from Beethoven Sonata no. 6 has been released on the Japanese label Opus Kura 7019. He caused a sensation at his debut in 1893 and toured the world two years later. Ranked as one of the greatest classical performers! Very scarce signed performance flyer for his appearance at the Millersville State Teachers College, Sept. 28, 1943, 8vo. 1p. while in forced exile during World War II. Also, signed by Russian pianist Boris Roubakine. This concert is sighted in Groves Encyclopedia of music for its dramatic presentation. One minor crease at the top right hand corner and a small water stain at the right margin - both far from the signatures. Neither fault detracts from this historical item. Extractions: Born in Czestochowa, Poland, Huberman was a child prodigy in Warsaw. At the age of ten, he played before the emperor Francis Joseph in Vienna and for the violinist Joseph *Joachim in Berlin. In 1893 he began playing in the main cities of Europe. An appearance with the famous soprano Adelina Patti led to many other engagements, and in 1896 he played the Brahms violin concerto in the presence of the composer. From then on Huberman was a celebrity. He played on Paganini's violin in Geneva in 1908 and was a frequent soloist in the concert halls of Germany.
