Extractions: Search by Date Chowchilla, CA The new Chowchilla Speedway concluded the regular portion of their 2000 schedule by having a special race day on Sunday afternoon. The California Sportsman competed, but the remainder of the day was a full racing program for both the Lady drivers and the Mechanics for the various teams. California Sportsman champion Mike Friesen won that main event ahead of Rob Schropp, Nate Smith, Matt Paulson, Rod Poor, Mark Jump and Bill Mattos. In a full day of lady action, experienced racer Darcie Odgers won the street stock main event in front of Rhonda Smith, Leeja Fandrey, Kelly Maples and Tammy Stone with an 11 car field racing. A couple of the ladies tried the modified cars and one even drove a sprint car. They ran them together and Tami Smith wheeled the Bobby Smith modified to a win over Robin Folkner and the sprint car of Julie Lefler. A top 3 point racer at Merced Speedway, Robin Fast won the hobby stock main ahead of Jennifer Mattingly, Nikki Smith and Kristi Williams, who was driving Red Williams' track title car. Lesa Hughes won the lady mini stock main over Michelle Bowen, Deb Fortney, Joanie Hatherly and Candee McIntosh. The Mechanics action had similar fields. Mike Villaneuva wheeled the Brian Ipock car to victory in the modified feature over Gary Hansen, Steve Lee and Tim Smith. Smith was a busy driver as he also drove the Tim Ragsdale car in the street stock main. Pete Cornaggia won that street stock feature over Ricky Lefler and Jeff Anderson. There were five modifieds and 11 street stocks. Dennis Copus took the hobby stock feature in front of Jarod Fast and the busy Robin Fast with Carl Tatum in fourth. Larry Terry drove Bob Terry's track championship mini truck to victory in the mini stock main over Mike Crouch, Mike Minor and Wayne Capezzi. The sprint car action saw usual street stock racer George Lefler winning over Chuck Crews.
