The sudden death of Emil Gilels in 1985 at the age of 68 robbed the world of one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. Even today more than 20 years after his death he is vividly remembered by those who were lucky enough to have heard him in person. A titan of the Russian piano tradition has now become a legend. This project is dedicated to the memory of Emil Gilels. It contains many personal reflections and as yet unpublished photos and recordings, all of which contribute to a more complete picture of this diverse and brilliant musician. During his 2nd journey to Moscow, Michael Poliatskin scanned more than 2 GB of letters, telegrams, transparencies, dedications and especially the private photos of family Gilels. All the material will be published at this website.
