La sua salute ed il suo modo di suonare furono sempre strettamente collegate; la fortissima motivazione che ebbe, fin da giovanissimo, di diventare un prodigio della tastiera potrebbe averlo spinto oltre i suoi limiti fisici, per cui la concentrazione allo studio ed il continuo esercizio potrebbero essere stati la causa di tanti malanni, o anche di semplici disturbi, che naturalmente si accentuarono molto con il passare del tempo.
